Thoroughly enjoyed our visit here during a couple days exploring the Mason Urban center/Clear Lake surface area. The museum has a very squeamish variety of collections displayed in a thoughtful and however not besides serious manner. Highlight for us was the all-encompassing marionette collection, nigh donated by famous puppeteer Nib Baird, who was from Mason City. As a huge Sound of Music fan I was absolutely thrilled to run into some of the marionettes from the motion picture'southward famous solitary goatherd puppet show!

Attended a free film (w/popcorn) & discovered what a peachy identify this is for young & onetime alike. Staff are very friendly & the environment really gets you a mood to explore. Cute classic woodwork, windows overlooking landscaped lawn & stream, unique collection of puppets, LOTS of fine art work, etc. The movie was an 'indie' winning several awards: focused on the 'driftless' region of NE Ia/SW Wis. Just one of many events they provide year around. End by!

You won't be disappointed with your visit to the MacNider (free admission, donations are accepted). The collection includes something for everyone in a very inviting home-similar temper. The puppet/ marionette drove was fun and brought dorsum many babyhood memories. Spend some time meditating on the glassed-in porch overlooking the river. It was a rewarding experience, even in the dead of winter!

Very nice drove for a community of this size. Nosotros spent a nice 60 minutes touring the exhibits. Nice mix of media and styles. The Iowa Crafts display was a bonus. Had to explain the Bil Baird puppet display to my wife who is not from MC.

Cheers for your visit - and at the perfect time - the Iowa Crafts showroom is fantastic this twelvemonth! Not many people know nearly Bil Baird (& his Bricklayer Urban center connection) - but the puppets certain are impressive!

The building itself is unique and cute. Inside there is a great museum for the rather small town of Stonemason Metropolis. It has several paintings by known painters. For those interested in puppets it as well has a large collection of Bil Baird puppets and Baird is a native son. If you have whatsoever interest in fine art cease here. It's costless but they capeesh a donation.

The highlight of this museum tour was the collection of Bill Baird puppets, including the Solitary Goatherd puppets from The Sound of Music flick. An easy walk from Historic Park Inn and Music Homo Square.
